Arkas Builds Container Villages

Arkas Holding and its group companies continue to work to heal the wounds of the earthquake disaster and deliver them to those in need quickly.

The aid campaign that Arkas initiated with its group companies and volunteers from the first day of the earthquake continues to create more permanent solutions for earthquake victims in the medium term.

Arkas, which took action to heal the wounds of the earthquake disaster that caused heavy destruction in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Malatya, Osmaniye, Kilis, Adana, Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır, where approximately 13.5 million of our citizens live, and to support the re-establishment of a life, will consist of 1000 containers in total. started to work to establish “Container Villages” in different locations.

At the first stage, it is planned to complete the production and furnishing of 350 container houses, which will be built on two separate lands in Kahramanmaraş, where infrastructure arrangements and all permit procedures have been completed, and will be allocated to earthquake victims within two months. Arkas' Marport company undertook the construction of 200 container houses to be built in the first phase. Land surveys and feasibility studies are also continuing for the continuity of the project, which is called Arkas Life Centers. In the two-room container houses in the living centers in question, every detail is planned for the earthquake victims to live a comfortable life with all the interior furnishings, infrastructure, landscaping and social areas.

On the other hand;

Arkas Logistics, which started to transport aid materials prepared according to urgent and priority needs to the earthquake region with the coordination of AFAD from the first day, has so far shipped 79 truck aid materials and 16 truck life containers to the regions. While 100 tents were built and delivered to the regions, 2000 heaters were shipped to Iskenderun.

Taking action due to the congestion on the highway and to deliver more relief supplies at once, Arkas Logistics carried out the transport of 20 aid containers, consisting of 10 wagons, prepared according to the AFAD emergency needs list, from Derince to Iskenderun by rail, within the scope of TCDD cooperation.

Arkas Logistics; In cooperation with Arkpet, transporting 30 thousand liters of diesel oil from Derince to the Turkish Red Crescent in Hatay, transporting containers equipped with a 4-bed capacity, heated, generator cabin, air compressor, mobile electric, freight elevator to the earthquake zone, reefer with the feature of keeping the temperature constant It also continues to transport in different modes with its fast and solution-oriented approach according to the needs of the Earthquake Zone, such as hot food being sent from Istanbul to Gaziantep and Hatay with its containers.

In addition to delivering the needs to the region, kitchens were set up in two separate regions in Hatay with the support of Arkas Volunteers.

While Arkas Holding makes a great effort to deliver all support to earthquake victims in coordination with the crisis desk it has established, the kitchens established in two separate districts in Hatay, Arsuz and Defne, continue to provide and serve food for three thousand people three times a day.

In the mobile kitchen in Arsuz, with the cooperation of Hatay Arsuz Municipality and İzmir Cooks Association, three meals a day hot meal and soup are served 24 hours a day in Çadırkent (Next to Ayla Naci Uyar Anatolian High School).

All Arkas Human Resources managements contacted the employees working in these regions one by one and received information about the damage assessment and the status of their relatives. It continues its support efforts in this direction.

Arkas garages, warehouses and tow trucks in Mersin, Gaziantep and Iskenderun were opened for Arkas personnel and their families, making them social accommodation and accommodation areas. Three meals a day are regularly provided to Arkas employees and their relatives staying in these regions. Working on permanent solutions to accommodation needs.

Arkas Locomotive Investment

New Service to Turkish Logistics Sector:

38.5 Million Euros from Arkas

Locomotive Investment

Believing that supporting on-site production in Turkey is the key to Anatolia's development, Arkas has invested in railways for many years, bringing innovation to the Turkish logistics industry and buying a locomotive. The company, which ordered five Euro Dual model locomotives with an investment of 38.5 million Euros, will receive three of the locomotives in 2025 in the first place. With environmentally friendly locomotives, it will transport import-export containers from Turkey's leading industrial cities to Turkey's largest ports with scheduled flights.

Acting with the belief that connecting Anatolian cities to ports by rail will encourage on-site production and has been investing in this direction for more than 20 years, Arkas, with the motto "The Power Behind Logistics", makes pioneering investments in developing the logistics industry, with Arkas Rail, which it established under the umbrella of Arkas Logistics, within the scope of the 'Arkas Anatolia Project'. In the 100th anniversary of the Republic, it continues to break new ground by using the advantage of the railway to connect Anatolia to ports and the world at affordable costs.

Arkas Rail, with an investment of 38.5 million Euros, joins Stadler Rail Valencia S.A.U. While ordering five Euro Dual model, diesel and electric locomotives from the company, it is also planning to purchase nearly 100 wagons. Thus, the company aims to offer its customers a faster and safer transportation service with lower cost advantages.

Making a statement on the subject, Arkas Logistics CEO Onur Göçmez said, “It was very important to purchase a locomotive in order to be able to carry on scheduled services on the railway. With the Liberalization of Railway Transport Law in Turkey, the private sector was given the opportunity to invest in locomotives. As a company that has been investing in railway equipment and land terminal for many years, we are planning to provide service to the entire sector with the investment of five locomotives, three of which will be delivered in 2025, under the umbrella of Arkas Rail company, breaking new ground in the sector. In addition to this, we are working on purchasing another 100 wagons in addition to our 700 self-owned wagons. Thus, Arkas Rail will transport import-export containers on scheduled flights from Turkey's leading industrial cities such as Kayseri, Konya, Ankara, Gaziantep and Eskişehir, which it currently transports by rail, to Turkey's largest ports. On the other hand, it will serve with reciprocal block train services in rail container transportation, which continues to increase between Turkey and Europe, especially with countries such as Germany and Poland. This investment, which we will offer as a new service to the Turkish logistics industry, is an activity focused on port logistics, that is, container traffic, and will support the railport in Kartepe in the North and the land ports in Mersin Yenice in the South."

Environmental Locomotives

The most important feature of locomotives is that they are environmentally friendly. Thanks to the fact that the electric locomotives that emit zero carbon emissions also have a diesel engine, in case of a malfunction in the railway lines or power lines without electricity, they will be able to continue their transportation without interruption by switching from the electric engine to the diesel engine.

Route scheduled services to Europe and the railway Silk Road

Railport, the land terminal established by Arkas in partnership with Europe's largest intermodal logistics terminal operator duisport, in Kartepe, which has been shown as one of the best examples of complete logistics applications, the importance of which has increased in recent years, is planned to start operating in 2024. While Railport is a transfer terminal where the cargo on trains coming from and going to Europe can be unloaded and handled again, Arkas will carry out European transports from here to Kapıkule with its own locomotives.

On the other hand, Arkas Logistics, which started the first rail transport on the BTK (Baku-Tbilisi-Kars) railway line in 2017, carries cargo to Europe in transit with the Marmaray connection on the China-Turkey Iron Silk Road with its company Arkas Rail, which it established last year. While these newly opened transportation corridors offer the opportunity to transport Turkey's export cargoes to other new countries by rail, due to Turkey's geographical location, transit cargoes between Europe and Asia can be transported through Turkey, increasing the demand for rail transportation in Turkey, thus new generation locomotives and wagons. enabling investments to be accelerated.
